POTONG JALAN:
Malay, literally meaning "to cut a (new) road". Often used in the context of stealing somebody's girlfriend (v. rarely boyfriend) away, but can also refer to other types of transactions where one party is being bypassed or cut off.
"I thought you my best friend one, how can you potong jalan Jenny?"
Well, i got that definition off www.talkingcock.com. It seems to be a dog-eat-dog world even in terms of relationship. They say that if u steal someone else's galfren, someone else will come n steal your galfren.. sorta like a karma thing. But if you dun steal anybody's galfren, does it mean that nobody will come along and steal your galfren?
Nope, i havent
potong jalan-ed anybody's galfren. I'm just curious as to how this thing works. They say that if the gal leaves her boyfren for u (also meaning u stole that gal from him), she may just leave you for someone else when a better guy comes along. This implies that she is not worth the effort cos it'll bring you heartache in the end.
It seems that third parties are always frowned upon by the society and that they will never live happily ever after. I beg to differ. For those people who watch The OC, Ryan
potong jalan-ed Marissa from Luke. I think Marissa is happier with Ryan, rather than learning that her bf's dad is a gay if she had stayed on with Luke (yeah thats episode 12. for those of you who follow it on Channel 5, i just spoilt your show :P). Back to my point, i think Ryan and Marissa will live happily ever after, but of course, after encountering several turbulences in their new relationship.
Also, i think third parties can make other people's relationship better. If you have watched Shrek2, do you think Princess Fiona's dad n mum would've accepted Shrek as their son-in-law had Prince Charming not come into the picture?
Thats why i say we all give three cheers to third parties around the world and a hurrah for potong jalan-ing!
